NEET Physics section has 50 questions โ 35 mandatory and 15 in Section B (attempt any 10). Each correct answer gives 4 marks. Each wrong answer deducts 1 mark. Maximum score is 180 marks. Physics is considered the most challenging section by most NEET aspirants, making a high physics score a major differentiator in final NEET rank.
Mechanics (Class 11) โ 12-15 questions, highest weightage. Electrodynamics (Class 12) โ 8-10 questions. Modern Physics โ 6-8 questions. Optics โ 5-7 questions. Thermodynamics โ 4-6 questions. Waves and SHM โ 4-5 questions. Students aiming for 160+ must be strong in all chapters. Students aiming for 175+ must score near perfect in Mechanics and Electrodynamics.
NEET Physics tests concept application through straightforward calculations. JEE Physics requires multi-step problem solving and deeper mathematical treatment. For NEET, formula application speed is crucial. For JEE, conceptual depth matters more. Students preparing for both must practice both styles โ direct formula application for NEET and multi-step derivation for JEE.
Based on NTA's historical question patterns: Laws of Motion and Friction (5-6 questions annually), Work-Energy-Power (3-4 questions), Electric Charges and Fields (4-5 questions), Current Electricity (3-4 questions), Ray Optics (4-5 questions), Dual Nature of Matter (3-4 questions), Nuclei and Atoms (3-4 questions). Focus on these topics for maximum return on time invested.
In NEET Physics, approximately 40-45 questions are formula-based numericals. Speed and accuracy are both critical. Practice solving each standard numerical type until you can solve it in under 90 seconds. Create a formula sheet for every chapter and test yourself without looking at the formula daily. Common NEET Physics numerical types include projectile motion, capacitor circuits, lens/mirror problems and radioactive decay calculations.
Day 1-8: Mechanics โ all topics, formula revision, and 100 previous year NEET questions. Day 9-14: Electrodynamics โ Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetism. Day 15-18: Optics and Waves. Day 19-22: Modern Physics and Thermodynamics. Day 23-26: Full NEET mock tests under timed conditions. Day 27-30: Weak area revision only. Sleep 7-8 hours every night during this phase.
