Uttar Pradesh sends more students into JEE and NEET preparation than almost any other state. Many families in Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj and smaller towns ask the same question: how should physics be prepared, and do we need to move our child to a bigger city? This guide gives a practical answer.
Why physics decides the result
In JEE Main, physics carries the same weight as chemistry and mathematics. In NEET UG it is about a quarter of the marks (check the National Testing Agency's latest notice for the current pattern). Physics is also the subject where students most often lose marks, because it needs concepts and numerical practice together.
UP Board and NCERT: know the gap
UP Board physics and the NCERT books that JEE and NEET follow overlap but are not identical. Students who study only from the board textbook can find entrance questions unfamiliar. Plan for both: use the board syllabus for school exams and NCERT as the base for competitive exams.
A simple plan by class
- Class 11: build concepts chapter by chapter (mechanics, thermodynamics, waves) and solve numericals every week.
- Class 12: cover electricity, magnetism, optics and modern physics, and begin timed chapter tests.
- Final 3–4 months: full-length mock tests, error analysis and revision of weak chapters.
Staying home or moving to a coaching city?
Moving to Kota, Delhi or Prayagraj gives structure and a peer group, but it also means cost, distance from family and a crowded batch. Many students do well at home with strong 1-on-1 teaching and regular tests. The right answer depends on the child. If you are unsure, try a free demo class and judge the teaching yourself.
How to choose a physics tutor
- Do they test your child first to find weak chapters?
- Is the teaching truly 1-on-1, not a small batch?
- Do you get chapter-wise tests and a progress report?
- Can your child get doubts solved between classes?
